Why do we Fast? (Introduction to Fasting Apple | Spotify)
As an offering of our bodies to God
To discipline one’s “flesh” (sarx) and grow in Holiness
Give oneself over to extended times of prayer
Save resources so you can be more generous to others
What does it look like to practice Fasting?
Fasting - is the simple practice of not eating food for some time (a meal, sunrise to sunset, a full day, etc).
Weekly - Historically Christians have practiced a day of fasting weekly. This is traditionally done on a Wednesday or Friday from sunrise until sunset.
Lent - Historically Christians would fast every day of Lent (except Sundays) from sun-up to sundown. If you are new to the practice of fasting that is likely an unrealistic goal. We would invite you to use Lent to try and build a weekly rhythm of 1 or 2 days of fasting.
