Important Update as We Head into 2026
To the Friends of Coram Deo,
Since last fall, our Elders and Board have been meeting to discern Coram Deo’s future. Historically, Coram Deo has been a quirky, pure-hearted church that supported people pursuing a more relational, formational, and missional path of discipleship. For nearly a decade, we’ve walked with folks who lead house churches, those without a church home, and those rooted in traditional congregations. The question before us has been simple but important: Do we simplify, or do we try to expand? Michael and Dave were appointed to guide this process in their roles as the 501(c)(3)’s Executive Directors.
As we’ve prayed, listened, and named patterns together, it has become clear that embracing our limits and naming our present reality is the right choice for this season. A key implication of this direction is that Coram Deo will no longer function as a “church” organizationally. This means there will be no umbrella leadership exercising direct oversight of the house churches and communities. Looking ahead to 2026, Coram Deo will continue its same mission by offering support and connection as a 501c3 Ministry. While “church” is an expansive and multifaceted reality (cue Paul in 1 Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4), we believe it is clearest and most helpful to name this distinction.
For some, this shift may feel small or unsurprising because Coram has long operated as a supplemental place of support. For others—especially those who have journeyed with this community for many years—it may feel heavier, like the loss of something that was or something we hoped might become. See below for what to expect next.
Practical Implications and Next Steps
We would love everyone to join our 10th Annual Ahava as a time of remembrance, celebration, and prayer for the year ahead.
The Board and Executive Directors will reconvene in January and then send out communication regarding plans for 2026. You can expect clear steps for (1) being a member of the ministry, (2) the 2026 budget, and (3) a calendar of events, gatherings, cohorts, and other support being offered.
Existing House Churches are not impacted by this change; it just clarifies their independence.
Thank you for your patience, faithfulness, and friendship as we enter this next chapter.
